Looking at this picture, I think I have to seriously consider about my career plan.   ;-)

My colleagues might think that I much more suitable to develop my career on the business things. Business Development, Account Management, Sales & Marketing, etc.

Why?

Because.. to be honest it’s a bit weird using these kind of clothes to sites. The real engineer will not wear these kind of clothes to sites right? hehe..

BIZNET, my previous employer..

Filed under: Career & Business — anggarayudha @ 6:43 pm

Yesterday, I met Pak Adi Kusma, president director of BIZNET (my previous employer). I started work for BIZNET in the beginning of 2004 and decided to take another challenge on April of 2005.

Pak Adi showed me the brand new biznet’s product and services that will be launch on April this year. I saw IPTV video that played smoothly, almost as smooth as the film that we seen on the traditional TV.

A little disturbance that I experienced is just about the “black box” (Optical Network Terminal?) that create a delay at the first time operated. I believe this problem will be fixed soon before this product really launched commercially.

As I know, BIZNET have already and still develop Fiber Optic Networks. You can see how their network well developed in 165 buildings, including area of mega kuningan, sudirman, gatot subroto, pondok indah, simatupang (see this link). Take a look at it’s IP Global Network that well deployed to be able to provide the superior services for the customers.

Today, I try to see MAX3 website showing products offered by BIZNET. This is very interesting since once you subscribed with MAX3 then you will be able to enjoy internet connection, IPTV and the tremendous IP Phone.

BIZNET always amaze me. This company is always have a brilliant strategy to exit from the crowd and stay in a blue ocean area where nobody is there. Always have a very specific and well segmented target market.

Well, BIZNET.. Pak Adi, Pak Andreas Rahardja, Pak Alex and all my Colleagues, I really have to say Congratulation for the great growth so far and wish you all the best.

Honesty & Professionalism

Filed under: Career & Business, Contemplation — anggarayudha @ 3:13 pm

Let say you are a businessman. You are dealing with a project which have a very tight deadline. You need to recruit a new employee very soon for a very important position. Then, somehow you find yourself in one condition that you have to choose one from two candidates.

1st 100% fully capable but tends to un-honest

2nd 100% trustworthy but tends to not fully capable

Which one do you pick?

Ugh.. troublesome situation isn’t it?

But people say that this one is a common problem. Skillful and smart person, knows too much so that they tends to un-honest on someway. On the other hand, honest person tends to not professional since people like to trust them and give them jobs so that they have less struggling effort.

The best condition is of course you work with honest and professional people. One thing to consider is that you have to pay them quite expensive and you need to have a good employee retention program since so many companies want this kind of person to work with them.

While I am writing this post, I try to search through google with search term “honest professional” and I found so many companies using this “jargon” in their business. Hope they really have a commitment to be honest and professional.

The Global Competence..

Filed under: Career & Business — anggarayudha @ 10:11 am

Last month, I’ve upload some posting about Overseas Jobs. The 1st posting containing website addresses where you can try to look into for finding an overseas jobs and another posting is about security in job search through the internet.

Now, I am interested to try to figure out about the global competence. What competence needed to be acquired if you want to find an overseas jobs. As I notice these competence comprises of three main things defined as knowledge, skill and attitudes as stated by Howard A. Rollins, Jr from Georgia Institute of Technology in his presentation file.

Knowledge

  • Basic facts and concepts of globalization
  • Comparative politics, global economy
  • Country/region specific information

Skills

  • Putting knowledge into practice
  • Ability to communicate and work comfortably in other   countries/cultures

Attitudes/beliefs

  • Tolerance of other cultures and their approaches
  • Appreciation for other cultures
  • Respect for other cultures and understanding of the pros and cons of various cultures including one’s own culture

What is your New Year Resolution?

Filed under: Contemplation — anggarayudha @ 5:17 pm

This kind of question is always come and knock my brain and also my heart. The resolution should comply with the deepest heart desire and also brain. I just haven’t think it seriously. So, I will do the contemplation.. to evaluate what I’ve done in 2007 and try to see what is for the next.

To be able to have a SMART* resolution, we have to make a group of point that we want to put a serious attention (and effort) to those things. I hope I can make a little bit detail and a crystal clear resolution. The more detail and clear the resolution, the more easier to achieve.

Just now, i go to jennie’s blog and find her “new year resolution”. She talks about five things: fitness, finances, writing life, academic, teaching life.

What will be my group of point? hmm.. (*thinking mode “on”)

Jennie, wish you all the best and hope you can achieve those great things.

* SMART = Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-Framed

More “money market” then anything..

Filed under: Miscellaneous — anggarayudha @ 6:14 pm

suzuki spin

I found today’s situation in Jakarta that the money market most likely is the biggest market then any other market. The other market, –ie. cars, motorcycles, property, laptops– are just the tools to sell the money.

I found myself in difficulties to buy on cash a new motorcycle that considered as a very popular type and brand. The problem is that they have a very few number of ready stock for these “hot items” (read: easy to sell) and they give a higher priority for them who wants to buy on credit. They give lower priorities for people like me, who wants to buy on cash and carry.

My Colleague found the same situation when he want to buy a new car. And also with my relative who want to buy a laptop. I am feeling that it is not the stuff market anymore, it is all about the money market. The lend (sell) the money and they will take the interest.

One thing that i want to say is just.. “please let us choose what we want to buy, only the stuff or the combination of stuff and the money.. Don’t push us to buy the money if we don’t want to buy it“.

Listening Skills..

Filed under: Career & Business, Contemplation, Training & Education — anggarayudha @ 10:45 pm

Makassar, Losari Beach ~ view from Banua Hotel 9th floor

What does the listening skills means here in this post? Listening skills here is not refer to the listening skills when you do the TOEFL test or anykind of english tests. What do I mean is the ability to listen to the people around us. No matter if he/she is our superordinate (our bos) or subordinate (people who report to us).

I met a lot of great people, who are great business leader, great managers, great motivator with all the great achievements. I notice that they tend to have a common skills, one of their skill is that they have an Excellent Listening Skills.

They have an outstanding abilities in listening to their investors, subordinates, employees, students, childrens and even whoever they met. They love to listen in order to be able to learn and to know what are the people think. They have assumption, they have the data, they have the information but still they like to learn in order to re-check whether the things they are thinking is right.

The great people, they have ability to listen to their subordinates to be able to know what the grass-root feelings, opinion, so that they know exactly what is hapenning in their organization. Great people never feel a shame and never think that they will looks stupid if they ask their subordinate and listen to them for some issues. Through the listening, people will acquire more data, information or anything.

On the other hand, if we just like to talk, to be heard and  have a poor ability to listen, it will be very dangerous for us. It will be dangerous for our intellectual progress.

I feel sad when I saw managers who have poor ability in listening. They like to talk and being heard but they don’t like to listen. Even they are sometimes to arrogant to ask when they dont know what is actually happened. They think they know everything and have no need to ask the grass root what is the actual situation.

When we have to choose a leader, I think the listening skills is very important to be one of the criteria to be consider.

Have a great Listening
